Dallas Family Law Practice Areas:
The Engel Law Firm represents clients in these family law practice areas:
Divorce – Divorce is the act of legally ending a marriage you have to another person. Our firm guides clients through the entire divorce process.
Legal Separation – Legally separation is where you “legally separate” from your spouse but technically remain married. Those clients close to or after retirement age may want to consider legal separation as an option if retention of health benefits for either spouse is an issue. Legal separation is not offered under Texas law. We provide legal separation through courts in Washington State.
Child Custody – We help clients obtain the best child custody arrangement based on their own needs and those of their children.
Relocation – Relocation law is an area of law that addresses when one parent moves away from the other whether it is a move across town, across the state, or across the country.
Third Party Custody – Third Party Custody is when someone who is not the parent of the child acts like the parent of the child. Usually, Third Party Custody issues involve either a grandparent, Aunt, or Uncle.
Order Enforcement – This area of law concerns forcing compliance over the other parent (or person) when they are not cooperating with you. If your ex-spouse won’t cooperate with changing title to assets after the divorce is finalized, order enforcement might be your solution. The number one area for enforcement issues are related to child support, but they can come in in any area where an order exists including parenting plans and divorce decrees.
Dispute Resolution – Dispute Resolution means finding a way to solve your problem. Dispute resolution methods include collaborative law, mediation, and arbitration.
Property Agreements (Prenups and Postnups) – Property agreements are written contracts that control how you will split your property and debt in the event of divorce. Prenuptial agreements are called “prenups” because they occur before you get married. Conversely, “postnups” got their name because they occur after you get married. Both agreements substantially reduce the emotional heartache and costs associated with divorce.
Other Family Law Issues – From modifications of prior orders to name changes, there are a variety of ways in which family law impacts your life.
Bankruptcy – Bankruptcy eliminates or substantially reduces your liability of debt. Bankruptcy can save a home from foreclosure or stop the repossession of a car. We’ve provided a substantial base of information on the bankruptcy process and what it means to you. Interesting fact: Divorce is one of the top 3 reasons for personal bankruptcy in the United States.
Estate Planning – Estate Planning isn’t just about a while that decides who gets what when you die. Good estate planning can provide short and longer term tax benefits. Proper Estate Planning can provide legal liability protection for you or your spouse. Long term estate planning can help ensure your legacy continues on your terms even when you are no longer around. Typically, estate planning issues arise after a divorce.
